Open Executive Board Positions

Washington’s 43rd District Democrats need to fill three vacancies on our Executive Board at our General Meeting on Tuesday, June 20, 2017! These roles are: Vice Chair of Communications, Vice Chair of Membership, and Co-Vice Chair of Events.
Candidates must be nominated from the floor, and seconded. Candidates may give a 2 minute speech, and the body will vote. All members and PCOs are eligible to vote on these roles.
Candidates may also wish to promote themselves on our Facebook Group, create a Candidate Page on Facebook, and/or bring a flyer, stickers, buttons, or other promotional materials to hand out to the body.
In addition to the duties described below, board members are expected to attend a monthly Executive Board Meeting on the first Tuesday of every month.

Vice Chair of Communications
Messaging is the core skill required for the role of Vice Chair of Communications.
Communications takes information from the 43rd's various officers, committees, caucuses, and produces content for our website, emails, literature, and other communication media.
Like all our Vice Chairs, the Communications Vice Chair is empowered and encouraged to create a Committee to share the duties, and to expand them as volunteer efforts allow. The Communications Vice Chair and Committee need to be able to effectively set the tone and messages to support our organizational goals.
As this is an extremely vital role with frequent ongoing duties, the Vice Chair candidate should be confident of their ability to make a serious commitment of time, effort, and availability--accountability and rapid responses are expected on social media.
The Communications Vice Chair will work with the Technology Vice Chair in creating digital content. Ideally, the Communications VC will be able to work across a variety of platforms.
These skills are not required but highly useful: HTML and web design skills; and graphic design.
Vice Chair of Membership
The Vice Chair of Membership is responsible for recruiting new members, most effectively empowering members, and maintaining an up to date listing of members.
Like all our Vice Chairs, the Membership Vice Chair is empowered and encouraged to create a Committee to share the duties, and to expand them as volunteer efforts allow.
The most basic task of the Membership VC is to track information on paid members in our database. This is done in conjunction with the Treasurer. The Membership Committee is also responsible for membership sign-in at meetings, in conjunction with the Programs Committee. Membership should also track volunteer interests of members and engage volunteers at all levels of involvement in the District's work.
Membership ideally should develop outreach programs to inform the community about the work of the 43rd District Democrats and attract people interested in political activism. A further ideal goal is to create a team to welcome new members and guide them through the processes of the 43rd, such as Robert’s Rules of Order.
Required skills: Comfortable with database crunching, good people skills.
Co-Vice Chair of Events
The Events Co-Vice Chairs and Committee are responsible for the planning and production of all fund-raising events for the 43rd District Democrats, and any other events outside the scope of regular meetings.
The current opening is for a Co-Chair. (There is an excellent committee already in place!)
The Co-Chair will work with our current Co-Chair and Committee to plan events--from the fun parts of planning a party to the business of identifying locations, finding contributions for food and other needs, and soliciting sponsors for the events.
The Events committee must also work closely with the Treasurer to record contributions and ticket sales, and to track expenses and donations. This Committee also works closely with the Membership, Communications, and PCO Committees.

7.8 All Vice Chairs
All Vice Chairs besides the First Vice Chair (a) chair and have chief responsibility for their respective Standing Committee; (b) report to the Executive Board and Membership regarding the activities of their respective Standing Committee; (c) serve on the Executive Board; and (d) perform such other duties as are assigned by the Chair.
8.4 Vice Chair of Membership
The Membership Committee shall (a) recruit new members of the District (b) track volunteer interests of members and engage volunteers (c) Maintain a database of members (in conjunction with the Vice Chairs for Technology and PCO recruitment) (d) track attendance at District meetings and events (e) perform such other duties as are assigned by the Chair. The Vice Chair for Membership Recruitment shall chair and have chief responsibility for the Membership Committee. The Membership Committee shall consist of Members appointed by the Vice Chair for Membership.
8.5 Vice Chairs of Communications and Technology
The Communications and Technology Committee shall (a) publish any notices or information required by these bylaws; (b) prepare and distribute a periodic newsletter;(c) maintain a web site; (d) maintain a member database with the Vice Chair for Recruitment; (e) conduct public relations activities; and (f) perform such other duties as are assigned by the Chair. The Vice Chair for Communications and the Vice Chair for Technology shall co-chair and have dual chief responsibility for the Communications and Technology Committee. The Communications and Technology Committee shall consist of the Secretary and Members appointed by the Vice Chairs for Communications and Technology.
8.6 Co-Vice Chairs of Events
The Events Committee shall (a) organize and manage at least two annual fundraising events; (b) organize and manage other non-meeting events of the 43rd District; and (c) perform such other duties as are assigned by the Chair. The Vice Chair for Events shall chair and have chief responsibility for the Events Committee. The Events Committee shall consist of the Treasurer and Members appointed by the Vice Chair for Events.
